Job description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Solar Panel Designer to join a growing renewable energy team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing efficient, cost-effective solar PV (photovoltaic) systems tailored to residential, commercial, or industrial projects.
You will play a key part in the planning phase of solar energy systems, ensuring designs are accurate, compliant with industry standards, and optimised for maximum energy efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design bespoke solar PV systems using CAD or other solar design software (e.g., PV*SOL, SketchUp, AutoCAD).
- Assess client requirements, site conditions, and technical constraints to create effective system layouts.
- Perform energy yield calculations, shading analysis, and panel placement optimisation.
- Prepare technical drawings, electrical schematics, and system diagrams.
- Liaise with the installation team to ensure design feasibility and alignment with installation capabilities.
- Ensure all designs comply with UK building regulations, electrical standards, and DNO (Distribution Network Operator) requirements.
- Provide technical support during planning applications or customer consultations.
- Update and maintain accurate project records and documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and sales teams to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in solar panel system design or similar engineering field.
- Familiarity with solar design tools such as PV*SOL, Helioscope, or similar.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and solar energy principles.
- Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in design work.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of UK renewable energy standards and regulations is highly desirable.
