A long-established regional law firm is seeking a skilled and proactive Legal Secretary / PA to provide dedicated support to a senior solicitor leading a busy care and family-related caseload within its Canterbury office.

The Opportunity

Working closely with a senior fee earner, the successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day management of matters, client communications, and diary coordination. The position requires discretion, initiative, and the ability to anticipate needs in a demanding practice area involving sensitive cases.

Core Duties

  • Delivering high-level secretarial and personal assistant support to a senior solicitor.
  • Managing complex diaries, coordinating appointments, hearings, conferences, and internal meetings.
  • Preparing correspondence, legal documents and court-related paperwork via digital dictation and copy typing.
  • Screening calls, handling client enquiries and managing communications in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Overseeing inbox management, prioritising urgent matters and responding where appropriate.
  • Organising case files, preparing bundles, and ensuring documentation is correctly formatted and filed.
  • Liaising confidently with clients, barristers, court staff and external professionals.
  • Coordinating meeting logistics, booking rooms, arranging travel and processing expenses.
  • Supporting wider team members where required and assisting with workflow coordination.
  • Undertaking additional administrative tasks to ensure the effective running of the department.

Candidate Profile

The firm is keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have solid experience in a legal secretarial or legal PA role (experience within family, care or litigation work would be advantageous).
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Are confident handling digital dictation with speed and accuracy.
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally at all levels.
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail.
  • Are confident, composed and capable of working under pressure.
  • Exercise complete discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Take initiative and adopt a flexible, team-focused approach.
